Odyssey’s Keys to Success community and contests inspire multicultural women everywhere to take it to the next level — be a risk-taker! Just ask Kim Roxie, the brainchild and founder of LAMIK, a wildly successful line of beauty products that was born out of a passion to provide a safe, toxic-free alternative to what’s available to women.
She was the first-place winner of the KTS Pitch contest back in 2017. And when we caught up with her, she told Odyssey the $25,000 prize money back then was just the seed she needed to grow her business worldwide. “Time to bet it all!” she says enthusiastically. “I utilized the KTS prize money to pivot my business strategy from brick and mortar to e-commerce,” she says.
She wanted more than that — she wanted to develop a community, a place where multicultural women, and in fact all women, share a love of life. And not worry about the products they were using on their skin. That’s what the aptly named LAMIK — “Love and Makeup in Kindness” — stands for.
Not bad for a company with humble beginnings as a small boutique in Houston, Texas.
But Roxie never forgets where she came from and — most importantly — her community. She’s passionate about her people. “Meeting the community of successful women of Odyssey Media, and engaging in the workshops, gave me the motivation to accept the challenge to expand my company and pursue my goals,” she tells us. “When Mrs. Dunn acknowledged me as a winner during a TV interview, I promised the Odyssey women that I would rise to the bar that they had set for me.”
And we couldn’t be prouder. Roxie’s success really is a shared story for everyone in Odyssey’s community. When individuals in the community achieve their dreams, we are all part of that success.
